I started my Friday off with a delicious Vietnamese coffee, which is a shot of strong espresso type coffee mixed with condensed milk and poured over ice (Dad - you would LOVE it). I'm addicted to them and have taken to having 2 per morning (although not at the same stall bc I'm afraid of getting weird looks). Then I hoped on a bus for a tour of the Mekong Delta. I would have liked to do a homestay in one of the villages, but I'm pressed f
or time and really want to head North. The first stop was the floating market of Cai Be. It is by no means the largest or most beautiful market, but it was authentic (it's actually the whole sale market. Villagers load up these barges with their goods and hang out in the general vicinity until all their product is sold and then they head home. Each boat ties their product - say, a watermelon - to a bamboo pole and sticks it on top of the boat like a flag). Then we were off to a village were we went biking through town (and thanks to Hanni and Kristin I had "in the summer time when the weather is fine ..." stuck in my head). Next we hopped on a row boat and headed up one of the tributaries. Although it was a short trip - it was a good little peak into life on the MDelt.
